Student Success
The Borrego Springs Rotary Club supports pre-school children, children and young adults at various stages of learning. We donate to the Borrego Springs Children's Center and to The Reading Academy which help children develop early learning and reading competencies. Through our scholarships we help young adults continue their education in college, university and trade school to move toward long-term success.

Borrego Springs Children's Center
Each year our Club supports activities at the Borrego Springs Youth and Seniors Center. This year we contributed several thousand dollars to support the training of a new teacher for the Children's Center. The Children's Center serves infants and pre-school children to their parents can work. The Center provides much more than day care. It helps infants develop early learning skills and prepares pre-school age children for elementary school.
Learning Academy
Learning Academy was created by B.A.S.I.C to close learning gaps. The program produces academic growth by providing over 100 hours in courses individually tailored to needs of learners, from 2nd and 3rd grade reading and foundational math to middle school mathematics and writing support for English language learners.
After one summer program 35% to 50% will reach grade level on standardized tests and develop a positive mind set toward reading, math and/or English. Our Rotary Club contributes to Learning Academy each year. We normally contribute $2,000 per year. This year we contributed $2,500 and hope to do the same next year.

Miss Borrego Springs Scholarships
Our Club has supported the Miss Borrego Springs Program since its inception. Miss Borrego Springs and members of her Court appear and help at many community events. Every year our Club awards Miss Borrego Springs a $2,000 scholarship. Each member of the Court also gets a scholarship. Our scholarships and mentoring by Sylvana Meeks ensure that virtually every Miss Borrego Springs and members of the Court go on to higher education.

Student Scholarships
Each year our Club awards many scholarships to graduating high school students as well as to students still in college and trade school. Due to generous donations this year we expect to award almost 30 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $4,000. Last year our Club helped support 12 first year students, 10 second year students, two third year scholarships and 3 fourth year scholarships. Two of our scholars are undergraduate medical students who will graduate this year. Our scholarships can be used for living expenses as well as for tuition and books. That relieves some pressure on students related to supporting themselves while in school.
Thanks to our generous donors for more than a decade our Club has helped many students graduate from colleges, universities and trade schools.
